Rio Nido, California II

fernwise, she can hear your true song
and remembers too much
shape shifting woman
that turns into white water
a cauldron of raptors
a salamander under the stone
she wears winter’s lichen for a coat
deer hoof bells her crown
and draws lightening out on a madrone leaf using a piece of coal
stopping the rain from time to time
using dry earth as medicine wrapped in a charm
axe hitting hardwood
year round
it is the season of hibernation
always
there is a whispering
that can be heard you know
a turning away from the main road
we gather the dew from the fern
draw in the loam
bottle it
trillium ovatum
pedicularis densilora
whisper walking under the veil
